Abstract

The disaster management is an important issue as an attempt to make policy on development, prevention, emergency response and disaster rehabilitation. This effort is the responsibility of three parties: government, private and community to ensure that everyone gets the social protection and security. However, the disaster management is now still viewed from the perspective of science, focusing more on the physical building rather than on the community development itself. This article aims at discussing sociologically the importance of strengthening the community awareness on disasters and of the development of community-based disaster management, hoping that the disaster resilient communities are established.
