Key Words: Writing Skill, Recount Text, Short Film, Classroom Action Research This study aims to determine whether short films can improve recount writing skills at SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya. Based on the SMK curriculum, there are several texts that must be mastered by students in SMK. One of these texts is recount text. Recount text is a text that tells about events or events that happened in the past. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). Researchers conducted this research with two cycles namely. The subjects in this study were students of class X AKL 1 at SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya. Data collection is observation and recount writing. Data collection instruments in the form of observation sheets, written tests and documentation. The results of this study indicate that short films are learning media that can teach recount text material. The results can be seen from the increase in each cycle. At the end of the second cycle, the test results showed that there were 22 students who passed the KKM out of a total of 29 students (10%). There was an increase of 14% from the first cycle to the second cycle. Therefore, the use of short film media can be applied to students of class X AKL 1 SMK Kawung 2 Surabaya because it can improve writing skills.
