Abstract

There are various ways for a person to deal with stress, such as sudden mood changes, lack of enthusiasm in carrying out activities, and smoking behavior, so many people smoke to reduce stress. The assumption that smoking relieves stress is already widely circulated in society. Given the high prevalence of smoking behavior and phenomena that occur among the community, the researchers are interested in conducting this study with the aim of knowing the relationship between smoking behavior and stress in the community based on a literature study of several studies that have been conducted. This research design is a literature review study that uses a systematic review method, to summarize the results of previous studies. Sources of data come from national journals and international journals with publications between 2016 - 2022. The search for journals used as review material was carried out using the keyword "relationship of smoking behavior with stress" for Indonesian language journals, while for English journals used keywords "The relationship between smoking behavior and stress". Searches for national and international journals were carried out through the databases of Google Scholar, DOAJ, Elsevier, Mandeley, Proquest and Pubmed. From the results of several research journals that have been collected and selected by researchers. So the researchers can conclude that there are three levels of smoking that are usually done by smokers, namely light smokers (< 5 cigarettes per day), moderate smokers (5-10 cigarettes per day) and heavy smokers if they smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day. And found three levels used to measure stress levels, namely mild stress, moderate stress and severe stress. So that from 7 journals used as a reference in the study, it was found that smoking was related to the level of stress experienced by a person. Smoking can reduce stress levels and improve a person's focus. The findings highlight that the more stressed a person is, the stronger he or she smokes. Most people who can not quit smoking because they think that by smoking they feel comfortable and calm. Keywords: Smoking, Stres
