Abstract

Abstract The researcher conducted pre-survey at AKL 2 class of tenth grade in Pawiyatan Vocational Highschool and found that the student pronunciation score were below standard. This research aimed to find out how effective an application can improve the student at the AKL 2 class of tenth grade Pawiyatan Vocational Highschool in their English pronunciation. This kind of paper was Classroom Action Research (CAR) done in two cycles. The researcher picked 10 students at AKL 2 class of tenth grade as sample population. The researcher implemented speech recognition technology from ELSA Speak with 10 minutes training duration every day. The researcher and the students practice every day in zoom / google meet every day, and send the first and second cycle test results to WhatsApp group. Questionnaires also distributed after second cycles end to understand their opinion on ELSA Speak. The results showed that ELSA Speak as supporting application had positive result in improving the pronunciation skill among AKL 2 class of tenth grade. It can be proven by the students average score improving from pre-test to post-test. The average score in pre-test was 35, first cycle was 44 and 72 in second cycle. The questionnaires also show that ELSA is effective and with 100% students agreed. Keywords - Speech Recognition Software, Pronunciation, TEYL, English Application
